National Olympic Gold Medalists visit Macao

The 30th London Olympic Games have come to a close, and the excellent performances of the Chinese athletes earned them remarkable results, with 38 gold, 27 silver and 23 bronze medals, totaling 88 medals. They also broke 6 world records and 6 Olympic records, thereby writing a brilliant new chapter in the history of China’s competitive sports. Under the care and support of the Chinese nation, a delegation of National Olympic Gold Medal Winning Athletes visited Macao from August 26th to 28th. They were warmly received by all the residents of Macao.

On the morning of August 26th, 11 Chinese National Olympic Gold Medal Winners: Yi Siling, Sun Yang, Ye Shiwen, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao, Lin Dan, Chen Yibing, Zou Kai, Lei Sheng, Wu Minxia, Xu Lijia attended a forum and talked openly with more than 2,000 local university, secondary and primary students as well as educators and sports personnel. During the forum, the athletes shared their thoughts and the knowledge  gained through their success, encouraged young people to adhere to own beliefs, strive to bring out their own potential and forge ahead  to achieve their own ideals. In the evening, the S.A.R. Government held a grand welcoming dinner at the Macao East Asian Games Dome with Mr. Fernando Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao, Mr. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, vice-chairman of the 11th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Mr. Bai Zhijian, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. in attendance. Mr. Fernando Chui Sai On awarded several bonuses as a token of encouragement and support to the Delegation’s athletes who brought glory of the Chinese Nation.

Organized by the Macao S.A.R. Government, held by the Macao Sport Development Board and produced by China Central Television (CCTV), the “Our Pride – National Olympic Gold Medalists in Macao Celebration” was held at the Tap Seac Stadium on August 27th. During the event - which combined interviews, singing and dancing performances as well as games - the gold medalists interacted with more than 2,400 audience members and shared their joy. The atmosphere was lively and filled with cheers  from the audience.

To allow more people to enjoy the celebration, the organizer unit also arranged for live broadcasting of the event via channels from Teledifusão de Macao S.A. (TDM), and broadcasted live via the big screens set up at the Largo do Senado and Jardim do Mercado Iao Hon.
