8th National Games of Disabled Persons of People’s Republic of China

Organized by the China Disabled Persons Federation and the State General Administration of Sports and executed by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the “8th National Games of Disabled Persons of People’s Republic of China” were held from the 11th to 19th of October in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Held every four years, the Games are regarded as an event which praises and honours the optimism, unremitting efforts and determination of the disabled. A total of 18 events were held and altogether 35 delegations, comprising over 6,000 athletes from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as well as from the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions took part in the Games.

It was the 7th time that a sports delegation from Macao participated in these Games and 27 athletes competed in the track and field, Chinese chess events as well as table tennis events. Table tennis player Chu Ching Lau won a bronze medal in the Men Singles TT2 category. Although the other athletes did not come home with a medal, their indomitable spirit and performances won our admiration.

During the event, the Macao Sport Development Board organised a visiting group to attend the opening ceremony and attended some of the competitions to cheer the local athletes on.
