Au Hoi Man : Focus on the Future

In Macao, female cyclists have never left behind over the recent years. A pair of female cyclists, who are sisters, always get outstanding results. Au Hoi Man does not embark on a career path the same as that of her elder sister, Ao Hoi Ian, to become a full-time athlete. However, over the two years since Au Hoi Man became a cyclist, she has already gained excellent results in the youth category in Asian events. When commenting on her performance in this stage, she said, “Cycling makes me know myself better. I have never imagined that I can be that devoted to a single objective”.

Au Hoi Man grew up in Coloane. She has been connected with the nature since she was small. The activities she engages in with her family primarily take place on the hill. As her father loves mountain biking, Au Hoi Man and her sister always rides a bicycle and travels around the hill. She did not use to be an enthusiast in sports. She had not started to try various sports until she got into middle school, since when she engaged sports like volleyball and table tennis. Regrettably, these sports were never seem interesting to Au Hoi Man, but over the recent years, after seeing how dedicated her sister was to cycling, she changed her mind. In addition, her coach also invited her to team training. Thus, Au Hoi Man started cycling and tried to catch up with her sister, having discussed with her father.

There are not many female cyclists in Macao. Au Hoi Man was selected to join team training very soon and obtained many opportunities to compete outside Macao. As she always embraces challenges, she quickly proved that she is capable. As she had just become 18, she reached the peak in her career. She won 1 gold and 3 silvers in the “Taiwan Cup Track International Classic” in May, after which she also became a silver-medalist in the points race in the Asian Cup held in Japan in July. In August, she competed in the National Youth Sports Games for the first time and took part in the Madison race. Although she did not get any medal in the National Youth Games, she has already achieved a dream. She said, “My original goal is to compete together with my sister. Now I have achieved this and I hope to get better results in Asian sports events, which are more challenging.”
