Wushu team excelled in three World Championships

This is a busy and fruitful year for the Macau Wushu Team! After winning 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 4 bronze medals in the Asian Wushu Championship in September, the team played in the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships in Bulgaria and brought home 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 5 bronze medals, followed by the 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals in the World Taijiquan Championships in Poland and 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in the 1st Wushu Taolu World Cup held in Fuzhou, China, impressing the martial arts circle with the excellent results.

The 6th World Junior Wushu Championships was held in Bulgaria from September 25 to October 5, and the Macau team sent 14 emerging Wushu stars to play in the Taolu and Sanda competitions. Good news kept coming on the first day of the event. Wong Kui Sin first won the gold medal in the Boy's Taijiquan A for the Macau Team as a booster for his younger teammates. In the later competitions, a total of 9 athletes harvested 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 5 bronze medals: Wong Sam In achieved the most striking results of 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in Girl's Nanquan B, Girl's Nangun B and Girl's Nandao B; "Senior team member" Wong Kui Sin won 2 gold medals in Boy's Taijiquan A and Boy's Taijijian A; in addition Ho Weng I and Ho Chon Ieng won the gold medal in the Girl's Duel Event, reaching a successful end in the event of this year.

The 2nd World Taijiquan Championships was held in Warsaw, Poland from October 13 to October 22, and the Macau Team sent eight players to participate in the competitions, including Wong Kui Sin who won gold medals in the World Junior Wushu Championships. The team received medals on the first day of the event but only won the first gold medal on the last day. Ho Pui Kei got a high score of 9.22 with her smooth and powerful swordsmanship in the Women's new Chen-style Taijijian competition. She beat the Polish player with home advantage and won the first gold medal and brought luck and confidence to the Macau team. In the later Women's new Chen-style Taijiquan competition, she carried the achievement to a higher level by winning her second gold medal. Chong Ka Seng and Cheang Chi Kei played well in Men's Sun-style Taijiquan and Women's 42-style Taijijian competitions and harvested one gold medal respectively, increasing the number of gold medals of the Macau team to four on the same day! For the Championships this year, the Team won a total of 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 7 bronze medals that marked a satisfactory end.

The 1st Wushu Taolu World Cup held in Fuzhou from November 18 to 21 gathered the world's masters of each of the Wushu item. With the results in the World Championships in Indonesia last year, Macau team's Huang Junhua, Wu Nok In, Chong Ka Seng, Song Chi Kuan, Li Yi and Sou Cho Man got the entrance tickets for the event. Li Yi, who had never won the first place in any world championship, finally made her personal breakthrough in the Women's Taijijian with the extremely high score of 9.62, winning the first place against all other female players. She did not only won the first gold medal for the Macau Team, but also won her first gold medal in world-class competitions. “I kept the good momentum in the Asian Wushu Championship and would call this a “perfect” play. I participated in several World Championships before and failed to achieve good results. So I am overjoyed to win a gold medal in the 1st Wushu Taolu World Cup. It is also a great pleasure to see my own progress,” said Li Yi.

Li Yi and Sou Cho Man played seamlessly in the Women's Duel Event and ultimately added one more gold medal for the Macau team; In addition, Li Yi won 2 bronze medals in Women's Qiangshu and Women's Changquan; Chong Ka Seng and Sou Cho Man won 1 silver medal respectively. The Macau Wushu Team achieved a good result of 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in total.
