Macao Elderly Sports Day

Organised by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Macao Elderly Sports Association, and supported by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, the Women’s General Association of Macao, and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Seniors Academy, the 2015 Macao Elderly Sports Day was successfully held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on 20th September, with over 2,000 elderly people in attendance. To enable the elderly to exercise and enjoy the fun of sports with families, eight booths for recreational and sports activities alongside three physical fitness assessment booths were set up for participants.

Various performances and a lucky draw were hosted during the opening ceremony. With a number of booths for recreational and sports activities as well as physical assessment booths available on site, the organisers hoped to pave the way for the elderly people and their families to have fun playing sports together whilst disseminating the message of ‘Let’s exercise for our health’ - to encourage the elderly to participate more in exercise and form a regular habit of exercising for a healthy life.

Among the guests at the opening ceremony were: Mr. Allen Lau, Vice-President of the Macao Sport Development Board; Mr. Chao Sek Kuong, President of the Macao Elderly Sports Association; Mr. Lai Seng Chi, Deputy Director of the Board of Supervisors of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao; Mr. Leong Wai Fong, Vice Director of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Ms. Lam Un Mui, Director of the Women’s General Association of Macao; Ms. Lam Wan Mei, Director of the Macao Polytechnic Institute Seniors Academy; Mr. Lou Pak Sang, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Mr. Wong Iok Chu, Head of the Department of Administrative Support of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, and members of the Macao Sports Commission. Recreational and sports activities followed immediately after the opening ceremony, with participants enjoying themselves in this lively, cheerful and healthy event.
