Summer Activities 2014

This year the Summer Activities jointly organized by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and Macau Sport Development Board provided a variety of interesting activities, offering a total of 417 sports and recreational activities and over 50,000 places for children and teenagers in Macao.

The Summer Activities 2014 has 132 sports activities, 793 classes and near 24,000 quotas, including seven categories: ball games, water sports, martial arts and boxing, dance sports and chess, other sports activities, themed camps and activities for the differently-abled; and six newly added activities: volleyball coach training course, rugby, advanced snooker, sailing, basic youth boxing and belly dance for fitness.

Highlights of this year would be the diverse life camps such as the “Sports exchange camp between Guongdong and Macao” and the “Parent-child sports exchange camp between Guongdong and Macao”, which allowed teenagers to learn outside the classroom, embrace nature and experience life through outdoor activities, wherein they broadened their eyesight and cultivated independence, enhanced self-confidence and team spirit. Furthermore, parent-child activities promoted the importance of family members’ co-participation and strengthened the communication and interaction between parents and children. What is more, 21 activities for the differently-abled were added for the mentally challenged, hearing impaired and physically disabled, the newly added activity was the parent-child cycling class.

Various sports activities benefit our health and fitness, allowing young people to develop their potentials and form a good habit of regular exercises. Meanwhile, the relevant activities help all sports associations to explore potential sports new stars, prepare talented athletes for the future sports development.

In the meantime, Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture organized the members of Youth Affairs Committee and Sports Committee to visit some of the summer recreational and sports activities to deepen the understanding and exchange between the two Committees and the development of the youth summer activities.
