Vibrant 67th Grand Prix Ignites Carnival Atmosphere Across City
2020-11-04

The 67th Macau Grand Prix will be held this month, and in order to enhance both the social and economic benefits of this year’s event, and to revitalize the economy and increase employment by promoting the tourism industry, the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC) has organized a variety of events around the main attraction.

As well an exciting line-up for racing fans, the MGPOC will create a city-wide carnival-style atmosphere via different types of activities. While creating entertainment, MGPOC will also promote Macao to people from all over the world, paving the way for the city’s tourism recovery ahead of traditional visitor festive holidays such as Christmas, New Year and the Spring Festival. These activities are designed to attract more visitors to Macao, promote tourism, boost the economy, and increase employment opportunities.

The MGPOC will organize a number of events around the Grand Prix in the coming weeks, while strictly adhering to the health authorities’ epidemic prevention measures to ensure that participants may experience all the excitement of the Grand Prix in a safe environment.

To enable both residents and visitors to experience the unique charm of the Grand Prix, the 67th Macau Grand Prix Family Carnival will be held at Tap Seac Square from November 7th to 8th. The concept of the event is to transform the square into the Guia Circuit, with a mini race track allowing children to understand the different tasks involved in staging the event and thereby learn more about motorsport in an engaging and entertaining way.

A week later, the 67th Macau Grand Prix Car Show will be held at Tap Seac Square from November 14th to 15th. A number of this year’s participating racing cars will be exhibited, as well as the Grand Prix official and rescue vehicles, allowing members of the public to see the cars up close and providing photo opportunities for photographers. The show’s opening ceremony will be held at 3pm on November 14th.  During the event, there will also be sales booths for Grand Prix-themed cultural and creative products.

In order to further enhance the atmosphere of the Grand Prix, a Harley Davidson motorcycle parade will be held during the event, letting spectators appreciate this classic motorcycle brand. In addition, giant screens showing the races will be set up at various locations throughout the local community, including at Senado Square, Iao Hon Market Park, Rotunda de Carlos da Maia, Feira do Carmo, Amizade Plaza, Leisure Area of Lok Yeong Fa Yuen Building and Tap Seac Square, enabling residents and visitors to enjoy the Grand Prix.

In order to encourage Macao residents to become involved in the Grand Prix through a variety of different activities, and to deepen understanding of the event, the 67th Macau Grand Prix Photo Contest will be held with entries accepted from November 23rd to December 30th. The contest will enable local residents with a love of photography and motorsport to capture exciting moments from this year’s event.

In terms of community promotion, the MGPOC continues its cooperation with different schools and associations this year to deepen the public’s awareness of and appreciation for the Macau Grand Prix, which is a branded sports event in Macao, so as to build a consensus on the value of the event. In order to enrich local students’ leisure time and enhance understanding of the event amongst local students via dynamic and engaging activities, a racing car picture exhibition tour is being held this month across local schools. The exhibition includes the history of the Grand Prix and related information. In addition, this year MGPOC continues its cooperation with the education department to invite students to visit the races so they may experience the electrifying atmosphere first hand onsite. These activities enable the younger generation to learn more about the Grand Prix in various ways, emphasizing its value as part of Macao people’s heritage and ensuring its legacy through future generations.

In order to further promote a motorsport culture and infuse the city with a strong sporting atmosphere, this year the MGPOC supported a number of local associations to jointly hold several promotional activities. It is hoped that through diversified forms of publicity, Grand Prix excitement can be created across several areas.

In addition to building the Grand Prix into a carnival-style event in the city, the event is also an important way to promote and publicize Macao. This year's Grand Prix is the first large-scale sports tourism project in Macao after the epidemic situation has been stabilized. To ensure that the event is shown widely, this year MGPOC continues with live or delayed-live broadcasts of the event through different TV stations and broadcasters, with plans to cover the Mainland, Asia Pacific, North and South America, Europe and Africa and other countries and regions. By broadcasting to the Mainland and around the world will show that the outbreak has been effectively controlled, and that Macao welcomes visitors to experience its unique charm.

The MGPOC is committed to organizing both the event and the activities surrounding it to maximize the effectiveness of the Grand Prix in promoting Macao and its tourism, while endeavoring to bring more to society in terms of entertainment and enjoyment. Utilizing the positive energy of the Grand Prix, MGPOC aims to leverage its effect to achieve both social and economic benefits. At the same time, all epidemic prevention measures will be strictly implemented with the goal of assuring potential visitors that Macao is a safe destination, and restore the confidence and desire to visit the city again.
