2020-01-10

Participating teams in the 2020 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta & Macao Cup International Regatta entered the second day of the competition in the conquest of the title. After some fiercely fought battles, Team Péan from France, Team Wink Culture Group from Hong Kong and Team Seaman from Thailand won today’s Daily Awards in the Macao Cup International Regatta, the Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the International Catamaran Invitational respectively.

The wind speed was 7 knots when the race started this morning, but as the day went on constant gusts helped raise the wind speed to 12 to 14 knots.  The waves were smaller compared to yesterday which provided a more pleasing environment for the sailors to perform and compete.

The fleets in the Macao Cup International Regatta and Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta took part in a 22-nautical mile round-the-island race from the waters south of Hac Sa Beach to Huangmao Island. In the closely fought Macao Cup group, Team Péan withstood the challenge from Team Windy from Estonia and Team Vivat Sailing from Russia to claim the day’s win, extending their lead in the overall standing in the process.  In the Greater Bay Area Group, yesterday’s champions Team BLU from Hong Kong could only record a third-place finish, trailing behind Team Wink Culture Group and Team Tuo Ting Yi Zu from Shenzhen.

The International Catamaran Invitiational continued in the waters south of the Inner Harbour Channel. Team Seaman managed to improve their form to record one first and two second-places, putting them back in contention for the overall title.  Compatriots Team Vayu and Team YRAT Mavericks from New Zealand claim the daily second and third-place awards respectively.

The top three in overall standings at the conclusion of Day 2 are as follows:

  • Macao Cup International Regatta: Péan (France), Vivat Sailing (Russia), Windy (Estonia);
  • Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta: BLU (Hong Kong), Macau Sugram Seamo (Macao), Tuo Ting Yi Zu (Shenzhen);
