2019 “East Asia Super League – The Terrific 12” basketball tournament kicks off in Macao

The tip off press conference for the “East Asia Super League – The Terrific 12” basketball tournament was held at 12:00pm on September 17. Representatives from the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and Asia League spoke, including Vice President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR government Ms. Christine Lam and Asia League CEO Matt Beyer. FIBA Player’s Commission member Jimmy Alapag is also being invited as special guest and shared his thought on the tournament. Their remarks kicked off The Terrific 12, which is Asia League’s premier preseason FIBA-recognized tournament and is co-organized by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and Asia League.

Ms. Christine Lam, Vice President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR government welcomed 12 participating teams and representatives from basketball industry to Macao for “East Asia Super League-THE TERRIFIC 12”. She stated that, “We hope that this group of East Asian basketball players will not only entertain Macao citizens and overseas visitors by delivering high-level basketball games, but also further promoted Macao's sports tourism sector and a leisure travel destination image of Macao.”

Asia League CEO Matt Beyer expressed gratitude for MSB’s support and highlighted the role of the Asia League in facilitating growth of elite sports talent. Noting the timing of the event, Mr. Beyer stated, “With the FIBA World Cup hosted recently in China and the 2020 Summer Olympics upcoming in Japan, the eyes of the basketball world are fixed on Asia.” “’East Asia Super League - The Terrific 12’ showcases the elite skills of East Asian players to a global audience, while also providing a vital platform to encourage and inspire the game’s stars of tomorrow,” he continued.

Member of the FIBA Player’s Commission Jimmy Alapag offered words of looking forward to the tournament. Mr. Alapag noted that the “nature of “The Terrific 12” benefits leagues, players, coaches, and fans across East Asia.” He wished fans in Macao get ready to witness 12 of the best teams in East Asia bring some thrilling games in the upcoming days.

The conference was also attended by Ms. Grace Chen, Acting department head of Destination Marketing Department of the Macao Government Tourism Office and Mr. Wu Chong Fai, President of Macau China Basketball Association.

Following the tip off press conference, games for the first day of The Terrific 12 began. The tournament opens with an exciting match-up between the Seoul SK Knights vs. Blackwater Elite at 3pm. The Zhejiang Guangsha Lions will challenge the Jeonju KCC Egis at 5pm, followed by the Shenzhen Aviators and the San Miguel Beermen at 7pm. Day 1 competition will conclude with a face-off between TNT Katropa and the Liaoning Flying Leopards at 9pm.

What's better than seats right next to the action? Ticket prices for the group stage are set at MOP 50 for standard ticket and MOP 100 for courtside seat ticket. Semi-Finals and Finals tickets are MOP 200 for standard ticket and MOP 400 for courtside seat ticket. Full five-day tournament packages are also available at MOP 400 (standard ticket).
