The 2011 Macao Galaxy Entertainment FIVB World Grand Prix Finals

The 2011 Macao Galaxy Entertainment FIVB World Grand Prix Finals were staged at Macao East Asian Games Dome from August the 24th to the 28th. The Chief Executive of Macao SAR presided over the Opening Ceremony.The match this year included 8 teams, namely, defending champion the USA, Brazil, Russia, Italy, Japan, Thailand, China and debutant  Serbia.

After rounds of intense competition, the USA beat the rest of the teams to successfully defend their championship and took home the USD 200,000 top prize; Brazil took the silver medal and won the prize of USD 100,000; and debutant Serbia had an outstanding performance and took the bronze medal as well as the prize of USD 75,000.  Serbia’s Jovana Brakocevic and Milena Rasic were the best scorer and the best spiker respectively. Russia’s Iuli Morozova and Victoria Kuzyakina won the titles of the best blocker and the best libero respectively. Brazil’s Thaisa Menezes,Danielle Lins and Fernanda Rodrigues were the best server,the best setter and the best receiver respectively. The MVP went to Hooker Destinee of USA.  The Galaxy Entertainment Star-My Most Favourite Player title went to China’s Hui Ruoqi.

Chief of the Office of Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms. Cecilia Cheong So Mui presented the gold medals to the winning team. Also present among guests at the awards ceremony were Wei Jizhong, President of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball; Mr. Mao Si Wei, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Macao S.A.R; Dr. Zhang Xiaoguang,  Deputy Director of the Culture and Education Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR; Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, FIVB 1st Executive Vice-President; Mr. Theofanis Tsiokris, 2nd Executive Vice President; Mr. Andre Meyer,  Executive Vice-President;  Mr. Masao Tachiki, President of FIVB World Grand Prix Council; Mr. Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board; Mr. Francis Lui Yiu Tung, the World Grand Prix title-sponsor Galaxy Entertainment Group’s Vice Chairman; Mr. Ma Iao Ian, President of the Volleyball Association of Macao, China;  Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert, President of the FIVB Control Committee; Mr. Pau Ma Chong, Director of the Volleyball Association of Macao, China; and Mr. Philip Cheng Yee Sing, World Grand Prix title-sponsor Galaxy Entertainment Group’s Director.
