Editor’s Note

The concept of “Let’s exercise for our health” is deeply ingrained in citizens’ mind now. Moreover, the direction of Macao’s sports development has become the focus of many citizens. This issue’s Spotlight will introduce the 2012 policy in the areas of culture and sports. Through this column, readers will understand better the development planning of Macao’s sports in recent years and have a chance to be a part of this planning process, working hand in hand with the government to promote the continuous development of local sports.

Under the framework of “Cooperation agreement on joint promotion of projects for the Disabled”, we have seen new developments in the area of sports for the disabled. Through exchanges in experiences with the mainland, and going abroad for training and competitions, Macao’s  athletes with disabilities attained great results in international competitions.  Besides finding the developments in Macao’s sports for the disabled in this issue’s Sports News, readers will also be delighted to read about highlights of the 45th International Children’s Games, the 26th Summer Universiade, the FIVB World Grand Prix Finals and the Macao Open.

The focus of the third quarter Sport for All landed on the Macao Elderly Sports Day.  Over 2,000 elderly citizens joined the activities and shared with us the joy and fun in sports.

This issue’s Insight on Sport Science will introduce to us facts and tips on food allergies, common allergens in sports foods and the treatment methods. In addition, the Insight will discuss ankles sprain injuries so that readers can know more about the treatments of these injuries and what to watch out for.

Lastly, we would like to  recommend to our readers the Macao Tower temporary stadium.  The special feature of this stadium is that it is open to the public 24 hours a day. Facilities include a basketball court, a soccer field, sand soccer field and fitness equipment.  There is a parking lot nearby, so it is convenient for citizens, who can, in their leisure time, engage in sports related activities and eventually live a healthy lifestyle.
