Editor’s Note

With the arrival of the summer, the heat was also turned up for the Macao sport scene. The serene banks of the Nam Van Lake were overflowing with expectant waves and the annual Macao International Dragon Boat Races was the focus of public attention. Our readers may experience through this issue the vitality and festivity of this grand and traditional sport event.

For the purpose of better formulating future sport policies and providing scientific rationales, the Macao Sport Development Board (MSDB) has entrusted Beijing Sport University to conduct a research study on the current status and countermeasures of sport development in Macao. This issue will offer our readers a general overview of this study.

Competitive sport is an important part of sport development in Macao. Over the years, the MSDB has worked together with the sport organizations to drive a steadfast development of competitive sport in Macao. The Arafura Games held this year provided the first opportunity to appraise the Macao athletes on their performance and achievements. The Sport Report of this issue shall offer an inside look.

Through this issue, our readers can also share in the fun brought by the diverse range of sport for all activities held this quarter which include the “World Challenge Day”, “Free Sports Ground” Ball Games Competitions, “Family Sports Day” and “Macao Sports Day for the Disabled”. The youth are the future pillars of our society and their healthy upbringing is the main focus of the whole community. In order to allow Macao’s youth to broaden their social networks, make self improvements and to better utilize their summer holidays, the Macao government strived to offer a diverse range of summer activities for the Macao’s youths to participate in. Our readers may learn about the various activities organised from this issue’s report.

Since our last issue, the fun and selection days have been held respectively for the Youth Academies of Football, Martial Art and Bowling. Through our accounts on these events, our readers may gain a deeper understanding of the operations of these academies.

In this issue, Tips on Sport Science introduces to our readers the anti-inflammatory benefits of certain foods while One Minute Sport gives a brief review on the various preventive measures against osteoporosis.
