2011 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival

In order to promote the development of sport for all and encourage Macao women to participate in sports activities, Macao Sport Development Board and the Women’s General Association of Macao have jointly organized the Macao Women’s Sports Carnival on an annual basis since 2003. The Carnival aims to increase the society’s awareness and attention on Macao women’s health conditions and their participation level in sports. The event also encourages Macao women to improve their physical condition by cultivating a healthy habit of doing exercises regularly as well as through the various activities enhance their teamwork spirit thus strengthen the bond between family members and the harmony between parents and children in particular.

The 2011 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival consists of two parts. First Part was the Seminar on Women’s Sport and Health, which was held at Macao Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre on March 26th, serving as the opening event of this year’s Carnival. In the Seminar, representatives with the women’s groups from Macao, Jiangxi Province, Singapore, Thailand and Chinese Taipei discussed and shared ideas on various topics such as development of sport for all in the respective countries and regions, how women enhance their physical quality through sports activities, and the interrelationships between nutrition, sport and health. Also present at the Seminar were more than 300 Macao citizens.

The Second Part of The 2011 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival consisted of fitness competitions which took place at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on March 27th. The participants were divided into 3 groups, namely, Group A (18-40 year olds), Group B (41-60 year olds) and Open Group (18-60 year olds). Each group took part in 2 competitive games from which their scores were totaled to determine the winner. Delegations from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jiangxi Province, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Chinese Taipei also competed for various top prizes in the Asian Women’s Group Invitational Event.

This year, the Carnival attracted 39 organizations, nearly 70 competing teams and more than 5,000 people to participate, presenting a festive atmosphere.

Distinguished guests present at the award-presenting ceremony included: Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board; Ho Teng Iat, President of the Women’s General Association of Macao; Wang Shuqin, Director of the Women’s Work Committee of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government; Gao Shuqing, Director of the Women’s Committee of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the MSAR; Ip Peng Kin, President of the Social Welfare Bureau; José Maria da Fonseca Tavares and Pun Weng Kun, Vice Presidents of the Macao Sport Development Board; Chio Ngan Ieng, Director of the Women’s General Association of Macao; Lei Wai Kuan, Supervisor General of the Women’s General Association of Macao; Lai Kam Kun, Deputy Commissioner of the Public Security Police Force; Cheang Kai Meng, Acting Head of the Division of Recreation and Sports of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau; as well as members of the Sports Committee.
