Japan’s 2010 Asia Junior Sports Exchange Games 2010 - Badminton

    To promote the exchange of badminton skills between Macao and Asian youth, the Macao Sport Development Board specially organised a delegation of Macao youth badminton players to participate in the Asia Junior Sports Exchange Games 2010 - Badminton in Tokyo, Japan, from 23rd to 30th August at the invitation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

    As one of the international exchange activities organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Games have been held annually since 2007 in order to strengthen exchanges with youths from neighbouring regions and cities. Through mutual exchange and competition in the sports event of badminton, the Games sought to enhance mutual understanding between youth delegates from different parts of Asia and broaden their vision, thereby benefiting their healthy growth. This year, the following 14 countries and cities sent 15 youth delegations to participate in the Games - Thailand (Bangkok), India (Delhi), Vietnam (Hanoi), China (Hong Kong), Indonesia (Jakarta), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), China (Macao), the Philippines (Manila), Korea (Seoul), Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Myanmar (Yangon), Mongolia (Ulan Bator) and Japan (Tokyo).

    During the Games, the organiser invited a former national badminton team member to coach young athletes in basic badminton skills and key points in practice. Several competitions were played between various delegation teams in order to enable young athletes to have more opportunity to learn from each other and exchange skills, thereby developing mutual friendship.

    In addition, the organiser also arranged various activities for participants, ranging from seminars and sightseeing city tours to Sepak Takraw demonstration and exhibition games. In the process of participating in different activities, delegation team members engaged in friendly exchanges with athletes and participants from different places, thereby gaining the opportunity to understand the development of badminton in other countries and to share experiences and ideas on promoting the sport of badminton in various countries, further strengthening the friendship formed.

    After three days of exciting games, the Macao delegation team ranked 12th of the 15 participating teams. The Thai team won the Games championship, with the Malaysian team and Chinese Taipei team ranking second and third, respectively.
