Observation Tour to "13th Guangdong Games"

    The 13th Guangdong Games were held in Huizhou City in Guangdong from 3rd July to 16th July, 2010. At the invitation of the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U attended the opening ceremony in Huizhou. The Macao Sport Development Board also organised a sports delegation to observe the opening ceremony of the Games, with delegates including President of the Macao Sport Development Board Vong Iao Lek and Vice President Jose Tavares, as well as Sports Council members.

    During the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Games in Huizhou, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U attended the welcoming banquet organised by Lin Mushen, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Director of the Organising Committee of the 13th Guangdong Games, and had a meeting with Zhang Ying, Vice Mayor of Huizhou Municipality.

    At the welcoming banquet, Gan Chaoxiong, Deputy Director General of the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province, said that in addition to gathering friends in the sports field from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and further deepening their friendship by joining hands together to create a better future, the Games also sought to promote sports exchanges between the three regions and made joint efforts for the prosperity of the sports industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

    Following the welcoming banquet, Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board and other delegation members attended the opening ceremony of the 13th Guangdong Games in the Olympic Stadium in Huizhou.

    This was the third occasion that Macao had organised an observation tour to attend the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Games, following 2002 and 2006. Within the framework of the ‘Sports Co-operation and Exchange Agreement between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao’, the three regions have been conducting extensive communication and exchanges in sports in order to jointly promote regional sports development.

    In addition to attending the opening ceremony of the Games, the Macao Sports delegation observed a gymnastics competition at the Jinshan Lake Stadium in Huizhou.
