Macau SAR Government recognizes outstanding athletes and coaches

In recognition of those athletes and coaches who achieved outstanding performances in sporting competitions on behalf of Macao, the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region held the“Award Ceremony of Bonuses and Certificates of Merit in Sports to Outstanding Athletes and Coaches for year 2019”, at the 4th floor auditorium of the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre on January 10 at 7pm. The award ceremony was attended, among others, by Ms. Ao Ieong U, Secretary of Social Affairs and Culture, who was also the Representative of the Chief Executive.

In 2019, Macao's sporting delegation participated in a number of Asian and world-class competitions, including the 2nd National Youth Games and the 10th National Games for Persons with Disabilities. A total of 60 athletes, 29 senior coaches, youth coaches/ technical assistants were awarded prize money for their outstanding performances, in a total of 13 competitions from 8 different types of sports. At the same time 222 athletes, 90 coaches and technical assistants were awarded certificates of merit, for their participation in 23 different types of sports.

Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of Sports Bureau, pointed out in his speech that such success was the result of a concerted effort made by senior athletes, leaders and coaches of sports associations, with their careful guidance and cultivation, as well as the ongoing support and encouragement from the athletes' friends and family. Consequently, athletes are able to devote themselves to intensive training and to achieving results. In the future, the SAR Government will continue to invest in the sporting industry, while working together with each and every sports association. With the completion of Athletic Training and Development Centre, it will create better conditions for athletes and allow more outstanding athletes to progress in their professional development.
