Leong Chi Ioi Takes the First Step towards Her Dream

For the past few years, a new star has emerged in the women's volleyball field. Leong Chi Ioi, at the age of 14, was highly acclaimed and became a successor in the new generation in the volleyball field. With great potential, she encountered an opportunity to participate in the Arafura Games 2019 as a member of the Macao team. However, this was only where her pursuit to dream began. With an ambitious vision, she stated, “I believe that one day I will compete in the Asian Games on behalf of the Macao team!”

Leong Chi Ioi has been excellent in sports. She played basketball with his family in the early years. When she was nine years old, she joined the summer volleyball interest course held at Pui Ching Middle School. Then she discovered what she was really fascinated about and the direction of development.“At that time, my coach Leong Ka Ka asked me whether I would continue training when school began and I said I would. This was how my volleyball career began.”Although Leong Chi Ioi has merely been playing volleyball for five years, her potential was appreciated by the school team and the volleyball league. Her serious attitude was also affirmed,“Since I joined the school team, I thought that I had an additional duty. I had never thought of representing Macao, but now I will grasp this opportunity.”

The year 2019 is a fruitful year to Leong Chi Ioi. She joined another team and became the major player in the women's volleyball team of Pui Ching Middle School. After winning the champion title 11 consecutive times in the inter-school competition, she also assisted the league and won the champion title 7 consecutive times. With her outstanding performance, she was granted the opportunity to compete in the Arafura Games held in Australia in April. Although her career path seems smooth, she was very clear about her role and goal,“I do not have much experience yet. Now it is the most important for me to improve my skills through competitions and to learn from the senior members, teammates and opponents”.
