Macao Holds an International Regatta for the First Time

The first international regatta held in Macao, "2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta & Macao Cup International Regatta,”organized by the Sports Bureau and Across Four Oceans Sailing Event Management and co-organized by the Marine and Water Bureau and Macau Sailing Association, took place from January 10 to 13 at the southern water area at Hac Sa Beach. Around 300 international-class sailing contestants coming from the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area and other parts of the world competed for honours. Before the start of the race on the last day, all sailing teams left the Fisherman’s Wharf led by referees’ boats and sailed towards the Macau Tower. This fleet parade was spectacular.

As its name suggests, this event consisted of the“Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta”and“ Macao Cup International Regatta”. Ten IRC-class sailing teams from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the Greater Bay Cup race and the Macao Cup International Regatta involved ten Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group boats from countries including Australia, Canada, Estonia, the Philippines, France, Germany, Japan, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

After the race lasting four consecutive days, eventually, Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing (Macao) and Team WYC Lake Constance (Germany) won the overall champions in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the Macao Cup International Regatta respectively.
