“Macao Public Sports Games” Promotes Lifelong Exercise

“The 2nd Macao Citizens Sports Day” – organized by the Sports Bureau and co-organized by the General Association of Athletics of Macau, the Swimming Association of Macao, China, and the Macao Ping Pong Association – was held on 14th and 15th May. The event attracted around 2,600 participant-times of  different ages and from all walks of life. The whole-hearted engagement of the residents in each game had brought the event to a climactic atmosphere. The Vice-president of the Sports Bureau, Lau Cho Un remarked: “Macao Public Sports Games is a platform which aims to constantly motivate all Macao citizens to participate in sport exercises through different elements, to encourage them to form a good habit of exercising by letting the people experience the fun in sports by themselves, and eventually cultivate the lifestyle of ‘lifelong exercise’.”

2,600 Participant-times

During the “The 2nd Macao Citizens Sports Day”, a broad range of activities were organized at the Stadium, the Aquatic Centre and the Multi-Purpose Zone of Olympic Sports Centre, including track and field sports, swimming, table tennis.   Children’s group, junior group, youth group and public group were arranged in track and field games. In swimming section, games for junior and youth, individual adults and for family were organized;  in respect of table tennis, games for physically disabled, men’s singles and women’s singles and double competitions were held.

Competition for Guests in Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony was held at the Stadium of Olympic Sports Centre at 17:00 on 14th May. Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, hosted the opening ceremony and announced the official commencement of the games. After the ceremony, Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng and the guests joined a friendly competition for guests, showing their support by personally taking part in exercise and sharing the fun of sports.

To encourage more athletes to devote themselves into the competitions, all participants who had finished the competition were granted participation commemorative medals. Prizes were also given to the five best participants in each game. Aside from competition, synchronized swimming performance, recreational and sports game, physical fitness monitoring booth and entertainment performances were arranged in the event. Leisure area was also set up, allowing the participants to have fun in exercise while enjoying the holidays with family and friends.
