Co-organized by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Macao Sports Weekly, the “Outstanding Athletes Election for Year 2013” held its award ceremony on December 17 in the Forum II of the Macao Forum. The event attracted more than 300 audience including officials of the Macao SAR government, Sports Committee members, Olympic Committee members, representatives of local individual sports associations, athletes and other guests.
A total of 110 athletes and groups (including 39 youth athletes, 51 athletes and 20 sports groups) of over 30 sports competed keenly for 23 awards of the “Outstanding Athletes Election for Year 2013”. To name a few, the awards included “Outstanding Athletes”, “Outstanding Youth Athletes”, “Outstanding Athletic Groups”, “The Most Popular Athletes”, “Outstanding Coaches”, etc.
The election of “Outstanding Athletes of Macao” is a biennial event aiming at commending and encouraging fabulous Macao athletes, and introducing more excellent athletes of individual sports to the general public and hence promoting the development of sports in Macao through involving citizens in the voting. Winners of the award are chosen on a comprehensive evaluation standard composed of three parts – online voting by all Macao citizens, voting of the evaluating committee and achievements of the athletes in international competitions.
