The 2020 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta & Macao Cup International Regatta, organised by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and Across Four Oceans Sailing Event Management, and in association with the Marine and Water Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macau Sailing Association, officially concluded today. After four days of thrilling sailing races, Team Péan from France, Team Wink Culture Group from Hong Kong and Team Vayu from Thailand were crowned the overall champions in the Macao Cup International Regatta, the Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the International Catamaran Invitational respectively.

A fleet parade took place this morning to allow residents to watch the racing action in close proximity and to experience the atmosphere of the event,.  The participating vessels set sail from Macau Fisherman's Wharf, passed through Macao Science Center, Kun Iam Ecumenical Center and Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, and returned at Macao Tower.  In addition, the organisers arranged a spectating activity for residents to watch the parade and the International Catamaran Invitational.

Today’s weather was cooler than the previous days, and the wind was relatively strong at 17 to 18 knots.  The challenge conditions, however, did not deter the teams’ enthusiasm and determination as the contenders made final push for the champions titles.

In the highlight Macao Cup International Regatta, favourites Team Péan won the first race of the day to put them in prime position for the overall title.  A third-place finish in the final race completed a successful campaign for their legendary skipper Lionel Péan.  Estonia’s Team Windy and Russia’s Team Vivat Sailing are second and third overall respectively.

In the Greater Bay Area Regatta, Team Wink Culture Group from Hong Kong has put up strong performances since Day 2, and together with compatriots Team BLU and Macao’s Sugram Seamo formed a three-way battle for the crown of the Regatta.  In the end, a first and a second-place finishes today helped Team Wink Culture Group secure the title.

Team Vayu dominated the final day of the International Catamaran Invitiational with three wins out of three races, and defeated Team Diva from South Korea to win the overall title.  Thailand’s Team Phoenix also had a fine final day with a second and a third-place finishes to snatch the final podium position from compatriots Team Seaman.

The organisers held the closing ceremony and overall awards presentation after the races. The guests in attendance included: Pun Weng Kun, President of Sports Bureau; Ma Man Wai, Director of Across Four Oceans Sailing Event Management; Wu Chu Pang, Head of Maritime Activities Department of Marine and Water Bureau; Brian Sou, Chairman of Macau Sailing Association; Christine Lam, Vice President of Sports Bureau; Donald Chow, Executive Director of Macau Legend Development Ltd.; Ross Chisholm, Principle Race Officer; Sungchul Jeong, Chairman of the Jury; Joice Ma, Administrative Director of Across Four Oceans Sailing Event Management; other guests and media representatives.
