Knockout stage set for ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2026 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group

The ITTF Men's and Women's World Cup Macao 2026 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and World Table Tennis Management Group Limited (WTMG), and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, concluded the group stage today (1 April) at the Galaxy Arena, determining 16 qualifiers each for the knockout stage.
Following the final round of the group stage, a host of Chinese players have advanced to the knockout phase. In the Men’s World Cup, Wang Chuqin eased to a 3-0 victory over Finn Luu of Australia (11-4, 12-10, 11-3). Wen Ruibo defeated Simon Gauzy of France in straight games (11-8, 14-12, 11-9). However, Liang Jingkun was defeated by Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov 2-3 (11-8, 11-6, 6-11, 9-11, 10-12) after a five-game battle, failing to reach the Round of 16.
In the Women's World Cup, defending champion Sun Yingsha defeated Egypt's Dina Meshref with a 3-0 win (11-6, 11-4, 11-7) in her final group match. Wang Manyu also defeated Sreeja Akula of India in straight games (11-8, 11-7, 11-3). Wang Yidi came back from losing the first game to defeat Doo Hoi Kem of Hong Kong, China by 3-1 (8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4). Other Chinese players including Chen Xingtong, Kuai Man, and Qin Yuxuan also recorded comfortable wins to progress to the Round of 16.

The Round-of-16 matches for the Men's and Women's World Cup will take place tomorrow (2 April) and on 3 April. Tomorrow’s matchups in the Men’s World Cup include Tomokazu Harimoto (Japan) vs Dang Qiu (Germany), Jang Woojin (Korea Republic) vs Sora Matsushima (Japan), Patrick Franziska (Germany) vs Truls Moregard (Sweden) and Thibault Poret (France) vs Alexis Lebrun (France). As for the Women's World Cup, Qin Yuxuan will be up against Sabine Winter (Germany), Mima Ito (Japan) will challenge Wang Manyu (China), Sun Yingsha will face Kuai Man in an all-China encounter, and Wang Yidi (China) will take on Miwa Harimoto (Japan). Ticket sales have received an overwhelming response from the public. A limited number of tickets are available on Damai application & mini program and Galaxy Ticketing, and with a maximum of four tickets per person per transaction. Every spectator at or over 1.2m in height must show their ticket for admission. Children who are shorter than 1.2m in height and do not occupy a seat can enter the venue free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult; each adult can only bring along one child with free admission.
