China and USA arrive in Macao to prepare for FIVB WGP Macao 2017

The FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Macao 2017, organized by Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Volleyball Association of Macao, China and presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, will be held at the Macao Forum from 14 to 16 July.  Hosts China and winners of the Kunshan leg USA arrived in Macao today to prepare for the upcoming matches.

2016 Olympic champions and winners of last year’s Macao leg of FIVB WGP China are led by team manager Lai Yawen and head coach An Jiajie, and together with athletes including Zhu Ting, Liu Xiaotong, Li Jing, Yao Di, Gong Xiangyu and Ding Xia arrived at the Macao International Airport this afternoon. They were warmly welcomed by members of the Organizing Committee including the President of Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun and the President of Volleyball Association of Macao, China Chan Mun Fong.

Fresh from winning the Kunshan leg last weekend after defeating Russia, Italy and China, USA aim to continue their winning streak in the city where they were crowned champions of the FIVB WGP Finals in 2011.  Comprising mostly new players, their lineup includes only two players – Carli Lloyd and Kelly Murphy – that participated in last year’s Rio Olympics.  USA plays China in the highly anticipated final match of the Macao leg on Sunday which presents a rematch of last weekend’s finale in Kunshan.

The fixtures of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Macao 2017 are as follows (date and local time):

  • 14 July: 1600 Turkey v USA, 2000 China v Italy;
  • 15 July: 1430 Italy v USA, 1700 China v Turkey;
  • 16 July: 1300 Italy v Turkey, 1530 China v USA.
