The "FIVB Volleyball World Grand PrixTM Macao 2016 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group" will be held at the Macao Forum from June 17 to 19. Four world-class teams including China, Brazil, Belgium and Serbia, will be brought together to compete for the title of Macao leg. A signing ceremony of sponsorship agreement was held between Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and presenting sponsor Galaxy Entertainment Group on May 9.
During the signing ceremony and in the presence of Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of Sports Bureau and Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group co-signed the sponsorship agreement and formally announced Galaxy Entertainment Group as the tournament's presenting sponsor.
After the signing of the sponsorship agreement, Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Ip Peng Kin, Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group, Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of Sports Bureau and Mr. Ma Iao Ian, Chairman of Volleyball Association of Macao, China officiated the kick off ceremony of this year competition in Macao.
The 3-day exciting match schedule will start on June 17 with Brazil playing against Serbia followed by China against Belgium; June 18 will feature Brazil versus Belgium and China versus Serbia; and on the last day June 19, Belgium will play against Serbia and conclude with the finale between China and Brazil. On the occasion of the year of Olympics, exciting moments of the matches shall be highly anticipated as all teams will be fully equipped to exert their superb skills for the champion, through which teams will also consider the Macao leg as a warm up and assessment opportunity for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Tickets are on sale from May 11 at 13 designated "Circle K" convenience stores in Macao and are also available online on the event website www.macauwgp.com. Ticket is priced at MOP$150 per day, and each ticket is valid for 2 matches daily with free seating. Early bird offer of 30% discount is also available to those who purchase All 3-Day Ticket Package at "Circle K" convenience stores before May 24.
As in the previous editions, in order to enhance public participation and to boost the fun and excitement of this annual tournament, “My Favourite Galaxy Star Player” award will be hosted once again to offer spectators the opportunities to vote for their favourite players and be in with a chance to win fabulous prizes including hotel accommodation and dining experience. In the past 5 years, the “My Favourite Galaxy Star Player” awards were all bagged by athletes from the China Team, including Wang Yimei (2009, 2013), Xue Ming (2010) and Hui Ruoqi (2011, 2012) and Zhu Ting (2014).
