2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix
2014-08-27

The 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Council Meeting hosted by Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) was held in Tokyo, Japan on August 22 2014.  Representatives from Macao Sport Development Board and Volleyball Association of Macao, China attended the meeting.  During the meeting, FIVB decided that starting from 2015, the China region can only host two preliminary rounds - one by China and the other by Hong Kong or Macao.

During the meeting, the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Council has reviewed the organization of 3-week preliminary rounds of Group 1 of the 2014 World Grand Prix, and reported on the aspects of technology, media, television and marketing.  One of the main topics of the meeting was to conduct the draw for the participating teams in 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix Group 1 preliminary rounds, in order to decide the team combination of the preliminary rounds and the host cities and regions.

During discussions on the 2015 host city or organizer, FIVB has expressed the hope to involve more countries or regions to have the opportunity to host this tournament. Taking into account that in the past years, China (including Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao) will host two to three preliminary rounds annually, which is uncommon in other countries or regions.  In order to embody the principle of fairness and open up more host city, FIVB has decided that starting from 2015 China can only host two preliminary rounds each year: one round in Mainland China and the other round will either be in Hong Kong or Macao.  In 2015, Hong Kong will be the host organizer and Macao will organize this tournament again in 2016.

Macao has organized the FIVB World Grand Prix since 1994, except in 2003 and 2004 due to unavailable of venue and other reasons.  Every year, Macao is eager to bid to host the tournament, making the World Grand Prix an annual sporting event in Macao.  Although it is with regret to us as the Organizing Committee that Macao is not hosting the FIVB World Grand Prix in 2015, we respect FIVB's decision and we will continue to exert our best effort to prepare a fantastic tournament to our wonderful volleyball enthusiasts in 2016.
