2012 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival

So as to promote Sports for All and arouse the awareness and attention of all sectors of the community to the benefits of sports on the physical and mental health of women, as well as their level of participation in sports, the Macao Sport Development Board has jointly organized the “Macao Women’s Sports Carnival” with the Women’s General Association of Macao for ten consecutive years since 2003. This event aims to encourage women in Macao to be aware of and understand the positive influences sports has on their physical health and encourage them to cultivate the good habit of lifelong exercise.

The activities of the “Macao Women’s Sports Carnival” were mainly divided into two parts: the first part of the “2012 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival” was the “Seminar on the Importance of Fitness During Menopause”, which served as a prologue for this year’s Carnival, and was held at the Macao Fisherman’s Wharf Convention & Exhibition Center at 2p.m. on March 24th. Representatives of Women’s organizations from Beijing, Wuhan, Foshan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong SAR shared their opinions on this subject with local women. The more than 300 participants from Macao all expressed concern and interest on the subject and eagerly raised questions and voiced their opinions.

On March 25th, the “2012 Macao Women’s Sports Carnival” continued with fitness competitions  held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavillion. The teams which participated in the competitions were divided into two age groups: Group A (18-40 years old) and Group B (41-60 years old). Within each group, the teams competed in two rounds of fitness competitions and the team with the highest total score was declared the winner. Women’s organizations from Asian countries and regions also formed teams to participate in the activities. In a lively and joyous atmosphere, the carnival activities attracted a total of 54 organizations with close to 70 teams and 6000 participants.
