The “5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Basketball Exchange”

Organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government and co-organized by the Guangdong Province Sport Bureau of Guangdong Province and MSAR Government’s Macao Sport Development Board, the “5th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Basketball Exchange” was held at the Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre in Hong Kong on the 18th and 19th of February this year. Under the framework of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Sports Development and Cooperation Agreement”, this activity aims to further strengthen sports exchange between the three regions, foster talented reserves for all three regions and provide young athletes with more opportunities to participate in competitions.

In the first day of competition, Macao Men’s Youth Team was pitted against the Guangdong team. It was a fast-paced game where both sides played aggressive offense. The Macao team was able to better grasp their opportunities and won 60:51. In the second game against Hong Kong, both sides attacked and defended unceasingly in a fast-paced and tight game. The local team just edged out Hong Kong 89:83 in overtime. By winning both games, the team from Macao was crowned champion. On the Women’s side, the team from Macao was defeated 48:85 by Hong Kong, but rebounded with a victory over the Guangdong side 48:40 in the second game, ending the event as 1st runner-up, with 1 win and 1 loss.

Champions: Hong Kong

1st Runner Up: Macao

2nd Runner Up: Guangdong

 

In addition to this, officials from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao also held a work conference on sports exchange and cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in 2012. Participating officials included Ms. Venus Tsoi, Assistant Secretary for Home Affairs (Recreation & Sports), Recreation & Sport Division, Home Affairs Bureau, Hong Kong, Ms. Rebecca Lou, Chief Leisure Manager (Major Events) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Government of Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Zheng Junhui, Deputy Director of the Science Education and Exchange Department of the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province and Mr. José Tavares, Vice-President of the Macao Sport Development Board.
