“Sports and Life” – Dialogue with Youth

In order to allow young people to attain physical and mental health with harmonious development, plus to bring about the message of resilience and continuous self-improvement, the Macao Sport Development Board held ‘“Sports and Life” – Dialogue with Youth’ on the 5th floor of the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on March 16th. Synchronized swimmer Au Yeung Sin Ying, basketball player Lo Hip Meng, shooter Hung Pi Lien and Wushu athletes Jia Rui and Chu Chi Wa were invited to share their struggles and talk about the relation between sports and life with some 200 young persons who were in attendance. Mr. Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board introduced the development situation of Sport for All and competitive sports, thereby increasing the awareness of the young participants regarding the status of sports in Macao.

Louis Shum W. P.was the host of the “Sports and Life” – Dialogue with Youth” event. Through interactive discussions with the attending guests which included Mr. Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board and several current athletes of the Macao sports delegation, the guests shared with the audience, their stories of struggle in sports, as well as the joy and happiness of training and the bitterness that goes hand in hand with injury problems. This allowed the audience to have a better understanding of their athletic careers. At the same time, the way these athletes faced adversity was used as an example to encourage young people to build confidence and have a positive attitude towards life through sports, as their sports life is an epitome of the positive values developed through sports.

The President of the Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. Vong Iao Lek commented during the event that sport has a positive impact on the development of youth. He also encouraged young people to use the determined and unyielding spirit of athletes as a learning model, and absorb the spirit of hard work and perseverance by participating in sports. The MSAR Government has always provided strong support to youths participating in sports, devoted efforts to improving the Public Sports Facilities Network and provided advantageous conditions for the residents. At the same time, Mr. Vong Iao Lek also encouraged these young people to make good use of their spare time, participate actively in sports, and establish a positive outlook in life.
