Sport for All Fitness and Recreation Classes in 2011

With the aim of encouraging local residents to practice sports in order to improve their health, the Macao Sport Development Board every year organizes several activities within the scope of Sport for All, such as the Sport for All Fitness and Recreation Classes, which have proved to be very popular with the public. A total of six phases of classes were opened this year, with the number of categories increasing from 49 in the first phase, to 65 in the sixth phase. All in all 1,935 classes were opened, catering to 44,998 participants.

The fitness and recreation classes opened this year included aquatic sports such as aquatic aerobics, hydro-fitness, swimming for beginners, swimming, swimming for children, and synchronised swimming for beginners. The dance activities included group aerobics, aerobic dance, step aerobics, kickboxing aerobics, dance sport, Latin dance, jazz dance, line dance and line dance for kids; croquet, tennis, squash and bowling were some of the classes organised for ball sports; In addition classes in categories such as Tai Chi, Yoga, Yoga for children, gymnastics for children, rhythmic gymnastics for children, martial arts for children, fitness equipment usage, artistic cycling, figure skating, Wei Qi, chess and Chinese chess were also opened. A chess class given in Portuguese was also organised, along with advanced level classes for some of the categories and the parent-child classes helped strengthen the bonds between parents and their children. Macao Sport Development Board continued to work with the General Union of Residents Associations of Macao, the Macao Federation of Trade Unions and The Women’s General Association of Macao, with the objective of organising fitness and recreation classes such as open air dancing classes, Tai Chi softball classes, group fitness dance classes, Qi Gong classes, Tai Chi classes, line dancing classes, Yoga classes, ballroom dancing classes, Body Sculpt Fitness Class classes and aerobics classes.

In addition, activities such as badminton and swimming classes for the mentally challenged and hearing impaired were organised within the scope of the Sport for All Fitness and Recreation Classes, with the aim of creating a harmonious sports environment for both the healthy and the disabled.

The Macao Sport Development Board has, through the platform provided by the Sport for All Fitness and Recreation Classes, spared no efforts to provide opportunities for residents of all sectors of the community to practice sports, encouraging them to develop good exercise habits.
