Macao Sports Carnival

Jointly organized by the Macao Sport Development Board and Federation of Macao Sport General Association, the “Macao 2011 Sports Carnival” – a celebration of the 62th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 2nd anniversary of the Federation of Macao Sport General Association’ was held at Tap Seac Square on October 30th, 2011. Officiating guests included Dr. Fernando Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the MSAR, Mr. Yu Zaiqing, Vice Minister of the Sports General Administration of the PRC and Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Mr. Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the MSAR, Ms. Chen Ling, Director-General of the Consular Affairs Department of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the MSAR, Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the MSAR, and Mr. Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board.

A total of 74 individual associations and sports federations participated in this year’s carnival, giving 17 performances, including fitness, yoga, fencing, Tai Chi softball, sports dance, taekwondo, chess, rope skipping, karate, boxing and wushu demonstrations. There were also more than 60 game booths with different sports themes. Integrating exercise and recreational activities, the event created a lively atmosphere and attracted the participation of more than 20,000 people.

Through the annual “Sports Carnival”, the organizers hope to promote and raise awareness and understanding of the various kinds of sports to the general public. The various sports associations were also given a chance to interact with the public, allowing them to enhance their understanding and share their knowledge and experience in sports, increase their interest in participating in sports activities and maintain their exercise habits.
