Sport and Exercise Psychology Workshop: To be a winner – how athletes and coaches can surpass themselves?

Athletes from around the world place great emphasis on training their mental ability.  In order to reach peak performance, athletes and coaches alike need to enhance their mental ability. To achieve this end, Macao Sport Development Board organized the Sport and Exercise Psychology Workshop, titled “To be a winner – how athletes and coaches can surpass themselves?” at the Tap Seac Sport Multisport Pavilion for Macao athletes and coaches, teachers and students of physical education departments at higher education institutes and physical education teachers from schools.  Topics include “Winning strategies at competitions for athletes” and “Art of leading athletes to win for coaches”.

The workshop invited the President of the Hong Kong Society of Sport and Exercise Psychology Association Dr. Roy Chan Chin Ming to be the speaker.  Dr. Chan, through sharing his personal beliefs and experiences in sport, talked about the necessary prerequisites that the participant at a competition (the athlete) and the person leading the participant (the coach) must have in order to win.  He helped the workshop participants realize the meaning of winning and the requirements of winning as well as the possibility of “you can do it, too”.

There were two workshop sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Over two hundred people took part in the workshops and they comprised of  Macao athletes from different disciplines, coaches, teachers and students of physical education departments at higher education institutes and physical education teachers from various schools.
