Development on the promotion of projects for the Disabled

Following the participation of the track-and-field team of the Macao Special Olympics in the training camp held at the Beijing Disabled Sports Management Center in May this year,  the Macao-China Paralympic Committee & the Macao-China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled also assembled a disabled sports team to the Center for training during 1st July - 31st August. The delegation is made up of 18 coaches and athletes from three sports: table tennis, boccia and fencing. One of the coaches and four table tennis players of the team went on to participate in the China Wheelchair Table Tennis Open in Beijing, which took place from 21st to 27th July. In the competition, Macao wheelchair TT2-class athlete Zhu Zheng Liu partnered with athlete from China in the wheelchair TT3 -class team competition and won the team gold medal with a 3-0 victory over South Korea. Macao TT4-class athlete Chong Kam Lon also partnered with athlete from China and together won the silver medal in the wheelchair TT5-class competition.

The Macao Paralympics team participation in training and competition in Beijing following the delegation of the Macao Special Olympics team was one of the projects under the “Cooperation agreement on joint promotion of projects for the Disabled”. In the future, on the basis of disabled sports development, the Macao SAR Government will continue to assist the Macao disabled athletes by integrating and organizing training camps with large scale sport competition as well as other exchange activities, offering training to coaches as well as developing sport for all  activities. Moreover, the Macao SAR Government and related organizations will work together to further promote the development of the disabled sports activities and personnel training, to enhance the mutual development of disabled sports between Mainland and Macao Special Administrative Region, and to raise the competition standard of Macao  disabled sports.
