2011 Family Sports Day

The 2011 Family Sports Day, organized by the Macao Sport Development Board, co-organized by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao, the Macao Federation of Trades Union and the Women’s General Association of Macao was held on 26th June at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. The purposes of the event were to encourage the active public participation in sport activities, cultivate children’s interests in sport activities at an early age, deepen the bonds between parents and their children, and to nurture children’s team spirit. This year marks the seventh consecutive year the event has been held in Macao and attracted more than 2,500 participants. Over 500 family teams participated in a large variety of recreational competitions to experience the fun of family sports and the event was filled with warm and boisterous atmosphere.

Based on the ages of participating children, the event was divided into 3 age categories, that is Group A (7-10 yr), Group B (4-6 yr) and Group C (2-3 yr). The participant families competed in various recreational competitions including “Back-to-back Ball Passing”, “Threesome Four-foot Family Fun”, “Family Relay Dash” and “Happy Hurdling”, etc and fought for the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up as well as seven merit awards in each category. On-site gaming stalls and cheering performances were installed to enable the residents to join in the stimulating and family-enriching activities. Furthermore, a lucky draw was held for the “family spectator group of Universiade Shenzhen” given the families and their children a chance to attend this grand sport event.

Guests present at the event included Vong Iao Lek, President of the Macao Sport Development Board; Choi Tat Meng, Deputy Director of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao; Lei Cheng I, Deputy Director of the Macao Federation of Trades Union; Chio Ngan Ieng, Director of the Women’s General Association of Macao; José Tavares, Vice President of the Macao Sport Development Board; and various Sports Council members and representatives of social organizations.
