S. Lourenço Temporary Sports and Recreational Zone Inaugurated

Since the launch of the Public Sports Facilities Network in 2006, the Macao Sport Development Board has endeavoured to expand its affiliated sports venues and facilities in response to the needs of the public, while adhering to the principle of ‘people orientation’ in serving its people. Based on the premise of making good use of public space, the Macao Sport Development Board reserved the former site of the S. Lourenço Temporary Market for future use and redeveloped it into a sports and recreational venue now known as the S. Lourenço Temporary Sports and Recreational Zone.

On 30th September, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Cheong U, Acting Director of the Health Bureau Chan Wai Sin, President of the Social Welfare Bureau Ip Peng Kun, President of the Macao Sport Development Board Vong Iao Lek and Vice Presidents José Maria da Fonseca Tavares and Pun Weng Kun, Deputy Director of Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau Shin Chung Low Kam Hong, Deputy Director of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao Choi Tat Meng, Director of the Fishermen’s Mutual Help Association, Macao Fung Hee, Director of the Associação de Mútuo Auxílio do Bairro, abrangendo a Rua da Praia do Manduco Fong Kam Soi, and Supervisory Director of the General Association of Chinese Students – Macao Lei Pak Fai jointly presided over the inauguration ceremony of the S. Lourenço Temporary Sports and Recreational Area. Guests attending the ceremony also included members of the Macao Sports Committee and representatives from several sports associations.

The newly established facilities include six outdoor table tennis tables, three outdoor badminton courts, six sets of body building and fitness equipment, a pebble trail and a rest area. The opening hours are from 7:00am to 11:00pm, from Monday to Sunday. The Macao Sport Development Board sincerely hopes that the provision of additional sports and recreational areas will encourage more residents to participate in physical exercise, thereby healthily enriching their leisure time.
