Fong Hong U is Greatly Motivated

Fong Hong U, a new bowling contestant who became the focus of attention in numerous bowling competitions this summer, won the first champion title in his career in U15 youth category in the 45th Hong Kong International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships. After that, he won champion titles in the men's singles and men's doubles successively in the Zhuhai - Macao Bowling Inter-city Competition. To a young athlete like him, the greatest pleasure is not only about winning great honours, it is also about learning new methods and on-the-spot coping strategies in the competition. He believes that he can make use of what he has learned in competitions in the future.

Fong Hong U has become interested in bowling since he started to learn bowling in a family bowling class held by the Sports Bureau. Then, he joined the youth bowling academy and demonstrated his great potential there. Over the recent years, he has even been selected to be members of the youth training team and obtained opportunities to participate in competitions outside Macao. This summer was undoubtedly a season when Fong Hong U obtained the most since he had participated in competitions. All these good results motivated him to keep training. He believes that his progress is attributed to changes in attitudes:“During the Hong Kong Open, I had not thought of the results too much. I only paid attention to every single move. Eventually I won the champion and I was really delighted.”

Having accumulated experience constantly, Fong Hong U acquired new strategies. He thinks that all these will be very helpful in competitions in the future :“In the inter-city competition, I learned to use a new type of bowling. When I shoot it out, this type of bowling will rotate more frequently and it works really well on a dried oil passage. When I encounter different types of oil passages in the future, I can use different bowling types to cope with them.

Having finished all the events this year, Fong Hong U said that he would continue training persistently and learn more about bowling and on-the-spot coping strategies. It is expected that he will get excellent results again in the Macao round next year.
