Sou Soi Lam Wins a Silver with Outstanding Performance

Macao Karate athlete Sou Soi Lam won a silver medal in the women's individual event at the Indonesia Asian Games. As she competed at the Asian Games for the first time, she performed confidently in the individual event. Sou Soi Lam won landslide victory against her opponents with a 5:0 score and proceeded to the final, advancing from being among the best 16 to the best 4. Although she finally lost to Japanese contestant Kiyou Shimizu, she won a silver medal for the Macao sports delegation. 

Fighting Against the Japanese Contestant in the Final

With her outstanding performance, Sou Soi Lam defeated the Thai contestant in the semi-final. She was expected to win a silver and even possibly a gold. In the final, she encountered Kiyou Shimizu, who always won in international events and kept defending her champion title. Although Sou Soi Lam was aware of the difference in competitiveness, she focused on doing her best and completed the basic Taolu movements stably. Kiyou Shimizu finally won the championship, 5:0, and Sou Soi Lam won the second place merely. Sou Soi Lam was still honored despite her loss. 

Gratitude to Teammates for Continuous Support 

After the match, Sou Soi Lam expressed her gratitude towards her teammates for their encouragement during the preparation for the matches. She stated, “I, together with my teammates Kuok Kin Hang, Lou Wai Kit and Wong Sok I, have invested a lot of time in preparing for the Asian Games over these four years. Whenever I felt frustrated, luckily, they always encouraged me and corrected my mistakes in movements. I want to show my gratitude to them.”

Sou Soi Lam, who had performed outstandingly in the arena, said that winning this silver medal was to her surprise. She emphasized that this was definitely not just an individual glory, as it was an accomplishment rewarding the collect effort made by different entities. She thanked the Sports Bureau and the Macau Karate-Do Federation for their nurturing, as well as her judges for the reminders they gave during the past competitions. She also thanked her coach for his arduous work and her teammates for guidance. After the Asian Games, she will keep on training actively and reward her supporters through actions.
