Gold Medal : What Huang Jun Hua Longs for

Huang Jun Hua, a senior member of the wushu team who had already won the world champion, made another breakthrough. With his stable south fist and south cudgel performance in the arena of the Asian Games, as well as the mistake that his major opponent made at the key moment, Huang Jun Hua finally won the men's overall championship in the south fist and south cudgel event, historically gaining the second medal for Macao's sports sector in the Asian Games.

The overall south fist and south cudgel event took place over two days. In the competition of the south fist event on the first day, Huang Jun Hua completed his new movements and performed stably, deeply impressing the judges. He ranked third with the result of 9.70 points, making a path to earn a medal. On the next day, Huang Jun Hua was still able to perform his best when competing in the south cudgel event and won 9.73 points. He gained a total of 19.43 points in two events. It was expected that he could win a silver and there was even hope for a gold. In the south fist event, Chinese contestant Li Jingde, who had an edge over Huang Jun Hua by a narrow margin of 0.04 points in the south cudgel event, was the only competitor to stand in the way. However, he only scored 9.39 in the south cudgel event due to a severe mistake and lost the chance to be in the top three. Huang Jun Hua, on the other hand, finally won a gold medal.

After winning the gold medal, Huang Jun Hua admitted that it had seemed to be a dream for him, “Before the competition, I had not thought too much and I had merely been focusing on how to perform my best, so I succeeded. I was satisfied with my performance in both events. I am very happy that I can demonstrate the outcomes of my training in the arena of the Asian Games. Winning this gold medal was really to my surprise, as since the first day I joined wushu training, I have never thought that I could make such an achievement at all.”

Huang Jun Hua, aged 26 this year, made another breakthrough in his athletic career. He thought that he still had room for improvement, “I had thought that being champion in the World Championship was already the peak of my career. However, when I got this gold medal in the Asian Games, I found that I could make even a greater breakthrough as well. I would like to express my gratitude to my former head coach of the wushu team Zeng Tie Ming and my current coach Iao Chon In, as well as the Macao SAR Government, the Sports Bureau and the Wushu General Association of Macau for supporting me all along.”
