Scott Hend Becomes the Second Golfer to Win Venetian Macao Open Twice

The “Venetian Macao Open 2015” took place from 15th to 18th October 2015 at Macao Golf and Country Club. Australian Scott Hend claimed victory with a tournament record of 20-under-par 264 after gaining five birdies in the critical final round to become the second player after China’s Zhang Lianwei to win two editions of the Venetian Macao Open. Anirban Lahiri and Chiragh Kumar shared second place with a final score of 267 respectively.

Hend Seizes Two Championship Titles in Two Years

Once again, the 42-year-old Hend beat his old rival and title holder Lahiri, having maintained his advantage in the final two rounds, to get his second champion title of the event in three years. “I can't really remember much about 2013 (his win). I remember more about last year where I didn't play solid down the stretch. Anirban hit a great shot in hole 10 for birdie and fortunately for me, I made a great up and down on hole 10 and also on hole 11. From there, I felt I could move forward and play solid.” Hend was fairly satisfied with his score this year.

Lahiri Fails to Hold On in the Final Round

The defending champion Anirban Lahiri played generally well in the final round, although regretfully, he became erratic towards the end, failing to make a birdie putt on the 17th hole to turn the match around. He closed with a 66 to take the joint second spot with fellow countryman Chiragh Kumar.

The Venetian Macao Open is jointly organised by the Macao Sport Development Board of Macao SAR Government and the Golf Association of Macau. Sanctioned by the latter and the Asian Tour, The Venetian Macao is supporting the event as title sponsor for the fourth successive year. The guests present at the award ceremony included Lau Cho Un, Vice-president of Macao Sport Development Board, Lo Keng Chiu, President of the Golf Association of Macao, Dave Horton, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Sands China Ltd. and Grant Slack, Senior Vice President of IMG Golf and Jittisak Tamprasert, Asian Tour Tournament Director.
