Expansion of ‘Public Sports Facilities Network’

Since the inception of the Public Sports Facilities Network in 2006, the Macao Sport Development Board (the Board) has been adhering to the people-oriented principle of serving the public, constantly optimising and consolidating its sports venues, while actively seeking new spaces for more sports facilities in order to create more favourable conditions for residents to engage in sports and fortify their health.

The following sports venues have been added to the Public Sports Facilities Network:

‘Sports Ground at Veng Neng’

This sports ground was originally a multi-functional sports facility located between Block 2 and Block 3 of the Alameda da Tranquilidade Building (Veng Neng Kuong Cheong).

Following the takeover, the Board converted it into a standard artificial turf gateball pitch and renamed it ‘Sports Ground at Veng Neng’.

It opens to the public every day from 9:00am to 8:00pm since 20th July 2015.

‘Taipa Northeast Sports Centre - Indoor Stadium’

Following the relocation of the University of Macau, the Board officially resumed management of the University of Macau Sports Complex and renamed it ‘Taipa Northeast Sports Centre’.

The Board performed various renovation works immediately after the takeover of the sports facility before opening two squash courts and open-air tennis courts for public use in the first phase starting from 18th March.

Upon completion of the renovation works, the indoor stadium of the Taipa Northeast Sports Centre officially opened to the public on 1st September, featuring five badminton courts. It is available for public use via reservation seven days in advance or by walk-in.

Furthermore, in order to promote the dual track development of Sport for All and competitive sports, Taipa Northeast Sports Centre will set aside time for the training of Macao’s sport associations. For detailed information on group bookings, please refer to Macao Sport Development Board website www.sport.gov.mo under ‘Venue Booking Schedule’.

The opening of the above-mentioned sports facilities further expand the existing Public Sports Facilities Network and improve its relevant services. It is hoped that the availability of more sports facilities will encourage more people to actively participate in sport and form the habit of exercising to maintain their physical wellbeing.
