2015 Summer Activities

Applications for Summer Activities 2015 were successfully completed from 23rd to 26th May. Summer Activities is a large-scale programme for youths which encourages them to utilise their leisure time. By participating in various activities, youths not only discover their talents and get used to communal life but also acquire correct values. This year, over 50,000 places with more than 1,800 classes of up to 400 activities will be offered to teenagers.

In co-ordination with organisations and sports associations, the Macao Sport Development Board has offered a total of 25,000 places with 800 classes of 136 sports activities. Summer Activities not only allow sports associations to spot fresh talented athletes from a bigger pool but also enriches the off-campus life of youth.

Some 11 sports events have been added this year, including: in-line hockey, advanced swimming class, advanced life-saving class, evening wetland family bike ride, children’s track and field, orienteering camp, leisure and sports camp, mountaineering camp, rural camp, little soldier summer camp and activities for the hearing-impaired - rhythmic movement for children. These new classes primarily feature camping with various sports, allowing participants to enjoy different life experiences and the fun of sports while realising the goal of Sports for All – ‘Let’s exercise for our health.’

The highlight of this year is the series of ‘Macao-Guangdong sports exchange camp’ and ‘Macao-Guangdong family sports exchange camp’, promoting the idea of ‘Let’s exercise with our children to enjoy more fun and better health’. The camps feature various sports, and are open to teenagers aged from 13 to 16. For example, in the summer camps for collective training, the elementary camps will teach students basic skills and rules, and demand an adequate amount of fitness and endurance training; the advanced camps will offer specific sports training instructed by national and provincial coaches.

As a result, students will learn and improve their personal skills while also becoming a better team player in working out the tactics of the whole group. Participants will be accommodated in the Comprehensive Building of the Huangcun Sports Training Base in Guangdong during the entire camping activity. Through learning and exercising, young people will become more interested in sports, improve their physical fitness level and grow into more independent individuals.

This year, more than 19,500 teenagers signed up for the programme and a total of 36,066 people completed their registration. T

The organiser hopes that the young people will ‘cherish youth and live a fruitful summer vacation’ through joining summer activities and fulfilling the Sports for All goal of ‘Let’s exercise for our health’ when participating in sports activities.
