To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao S.A.R., the first leg of the 12th Guangdong-Macao Cup was held on the football field of Zhaoqing Sports Centre on 29th November, while the second leg was held on the football field of Macau University of Science and Technology on 4th December.
Falling 1-3 in the first leg, Macao played more offensively in the second leg at home, although the efforts turned out to be fruitless. Eventually, Macao lost 0-2 and was defeated by Guangdong on an aggregate 1-5 in this edition of the Guangdong-Macao Cup.
The Cup was launched by the Macau Sport Development Board and Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province in 2002 to enhance sports interaction between Guangdong and Macao and to commemorate the anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Macao SAR. The football associations of the two regions co-organise the competition to strengthen the growth of football in Guangdong and Macao.
