2014 Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon

Organised by the Macau Sport Development Board and the Macau Athletic Association, with Galaxy Entertainment Group title sponsor, the ‘2014 Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon’ took place on 7th December. 

In its 33rd edition in 2014, the Macau international marathon has become an annual finale sporting event, attracting the attention of runners from all over the world. In 2014, it attracted 6,000 athletes from 29 countries and regions to competein various races. The full marathon and half marathon began earlier at 5am, while the mini marathon kicked off at 5:15am, with horn blasts by Mr.José Maria da Fonseca Tavares,President of the Macau Sport Development Board, Mr. Ma Iao Hang, President of the Macau Athletic Association, together with Mr. Francis Lui,Vice Chairman of GEG and Dr. Jorge Neto Valente, Group Advisor of GEG.

In the most eye-catching men’s full marathon category, specially invited Kenyan athlete Julius Kiplimo Maisei defeated other runners to snatch victory, while his compatriots Dominic Kangor Kimwetich and Duncan Cheruiyot Koech came second and third, respectively.

In the women’s full marathon event, Flomena Chepchirchir Chumba from Kenya won the race. The runner-up was Hellen Wanjiku Mugo, also from Kenya, with the second runner-up Gong Li Hua from China.

Winners of other categories in the full marathon were as follows: Kuok Chi Wai from Macau, Chumba Linus Kipwambok from Kenya, James Kangogo Kipkelwon from Kenya in the men’s categories A, B and C, respectively. Lam Chak In from Macau and Wong Ping Chuen from Hong Kong won in the men’s categories D and E. The top finisher in women’s category A was Mok Chi Ling from Hong Kong, in female B category Aine Mary Oconnell from Ireland, in women’s categories C, D and E Shao Ya-Ching from Chinese Taipei, Wong Ping Yee from Hong Kong, and Zhu Meilan from China. In addition, a special prize was given to the oldest participant, 75-year-old Peter Kwan from Canada.

Winners of the half marathon were: Daniel Vieira Pinheiro from Portugal in the men’s category B, who also won the general category. Ruben Pascal Nascimento Sanca from Cape Verde, Ng Kam Tai from Hong Kong, and Nawal Bahadur Gurung from Nepal were winners in the men’s categories A, C and D, respectively. Macau runner Iao Kuan Un won the men’s Macau half marathon category. The champion of the women’s half marathon and category A was Edinah Jeruto Koech from Kenya. Crisolita Rodrigues Silva from Cape Verde, Claudia Cristina Barroso Pereira from Portugal, Lam Wai Keng from Macau won in the women’s categories B, C and D, respectively. Wu Yangyang won the women’s Macau half marathon category.

Winners of the mini marathon were: Xiao Minghui, Chan Chan Kit and Lai Wai Sing in the men’s categories A, B and C, respectively; Sio Ka Mei, Siu Weng Hong and Mo Mei Ling in the women’s categories A, B and C, respectively. Awards for the Group were divided into three categories, with Galaxy Entertainment Group champion in Public and Private Entities, The Workers’ Children High School in Schools, and Care Action in Sport Associations and Government-registered Organisations.

In the Macau Athlete Group, Chan Chong Ip and Hoi Long, respectively, won the male and female categories.
