Summary Report of the Four Major Sports Games

In the third quarter of this year, four comprehensive sports games –  the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games held in Korea from 29th June to 6th July, the World University Games hosted in Kazan, Russia from 6th to 17th July, the Asian Youth Games held in Nanjing from 16th to 24th August and the 12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China held in Liaoning Shenyang from 31st August to 12th September – were organized successively.

  • Nearly 2000 athletes from 43 countries and regions participated in 11 sports in the ‘4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games’. Macao was represented by a sports delegation of 77 people who took part in 7 events, including snooker, bowling, chess/ go, dance sport, futsal, Thai boxing and 25-meter short course swimming;

 

  • There were 27 events in the ‘27th World University Games’, with nearly 9000 athletes from 163 countries and regions participating. Macao sent a sports delegation of 79 people to participate in 10 sports, namely track and field, badminton, boxing, diving, fencing, judo, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis and volleyball. Among them, Choi Sut Ian ranked 7th in the final round of women’s 1 meter springboard.

 

  • Around 3000 athletes from 45 countries and regions signed up for 15 events in the ‘2nd Asian Youth Games’. Macao sent a sports delegation of 46 people to participate in 5 sports, including track and field, water sports (swimming and diving), three-on-three basketball, judo and table tennis. Chao Man Hou won a bronze medal in the men’s 50 meter breaststroke.

 

  • A total of 38 delegations from different provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, industry sports associations, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR joined in the ‘12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China’. Macao sent a sports delegation of 99 people to participate in 11 items of 31 sports. These items were  water sports (swimming and synchronized swimming), track and field, boxing, canoeing, cycling, fencing, golf, sailing and windsurfing, shooting, taekwondo and triathlon.

 

Through taking part in overseas competitions, Macao athletes exchanged with their competitors, got a better understanding of the level of sports development in different countries and regions, and gained much valuable experiences of participating in international competitions.
