2019-01-13

The 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta & Macao Cup International Regatta, organized by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and Across Four Oceans Sailing Event Management, officially concluded today. After four days of thrilling sailing races, Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing from Macao and Team WYC Lake Constance were crowned the overall champions in the the Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the Macao Cup International Regatta respectively.

Before the race started today, the competing boats took part in a fleet parade starting from the Fisherman's Wharf to the Macao Tower before sailing to the waters off south of Hac Sa Beach for the races. Today’s higher wind speed of around 12 to 13 knots and better visibility comparing to the conditions in the first three days allowed more competitive racing by all teams.

In the Macao Cup International Regatta, Team Subic Sailing/Turquoise from the Philippines carried the form from yesterday which moved them up to third place in the overall standings to win the first race of the day. As a result, the second race of the day became a shootout among Team WYC Lake Constance from Germany, Team Marenostrum Racing Club from France and Subic Sailing/Turquoise for the overall title. However, it was Team Estonia 100 that came out all guns blazing to claim the win in the final race of the regatta. WYC Lake Constance edged out Marenostrum Racing Club in this race to a fourth-place finish, which was enough for them to win the overall title with 19 points. Team Subic Sailing/Turquoise made the best last-ditch effort but could only manage to finish third in this race as well as third overall. Despite both teams finishing on 20 points and having two race wins each, Marenostrum Racing Club took second place overall as a result of having two second-place finishes comparing to just one by Subic Sailing/Turquoise.

In the Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta, overnight leaders Team Wan Boo Fish Sailing from Macao won both races today to take overall title with eight points. Two third-place finishes today by Team BLU from Hong Kong allowed them to take the honour of second place overall with 13 points. Team SUGRAM from Macao, on 16 points, completed the overall top three.

The organizers held the closing ceremony and overall awards presentation after the races.
